Today was a very sad day in our house. We said goodbye to our 12 1/2 year old lab, Bailey. She was our first dog after we got married, and I never knew I could feel this way about an animal. I still remember the day we went to get her, she was the only puppy left of an entire litter. In our minds – they had saved the best for last. She was basically jumping out of the cardboard box she was in order to get our attention. The first night, we put her in a crate in the basement – BIG MISTAKE!!! She yelped so loud that the entire neighborhood heard her. The next night, she got exactly what she wanted – she slept in between Tim and I and stayed there for many many years. She stayed healthy and happy by our sides for almost 13 years. About 3 weeks ago she stopped eating. We tried to coax her to eat people food, but she eventually gave up on that too. The vet said she was still healthy, but we knew better and this morning we held her as she left us. We had never been through this before, and as a friend told us – it is just as bad as you think it will be – maybe worse.
On a business note – I am sorry if you have emailed and we have not gotten back to you in the past week. We will be getting back to everyone tomorrow. Thank you all for your support and love – we look forward to seeing everyone in this NEW YEAR!!

So sorry for your loss, Catherine. We lost our dog last year. It was heartbreaking. Thinking of you and your family.
I am SO sorry for your loss & sending a giant e-hug across the miles. Y’all will be in my thoughts and prayers.
(It probably seems impossible right now, but know that with time the sharpness fades and gives way to fondness. Bailey will romp with you, in your hearts, forever.)

well said my love, and goodbye old friend. May God’s arm never tire of throwing tennis balls and you never tire of chasing.
We lost our beloved Golden Retriever “Chipper” several months ago after 7 years in our family. It was one of the most emotional times in my life, so I can certainly sympathize. You will be in my prayers.
Catherine, I am so sorry for your loss! I lost my lab about 2 yrs. ago. He was the same age as your sweet Bailey and passed away in my arms. It was one of the hardest days of my life, and something you can never be prepared for. Know I am praying for y’all!
I’m so sorry for you!! I know I’m a little late on saying this.. but I just took a peek at your blog too. You must read Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein.. it will help you remember Bailey Anne in a happy way… that picture just breaks my heart. It’s beautiful…but at the same time you see her age.. it reminds me of our first golden, Addy… I hope you guys get another dog to love.. it really helps.. they are all so special!
